Women in the Church
From the very beginning, women have been among the most important saints and leaders in the Church. Like the myrrh-bearing women, the first to proclaim the good news of the Resurrection to the Apostles. In the following video from Be the Bee, Steve Christoforou explains how the early church was ahead of society in giving equal rights to women and how even today women thrive in a variety of roles within the church.
The Myrrh-bearing Women
The image of the myrrh-bearing women was one of the earliest Christian images used when depicting the Resurrection. Whereas the icon of the Resurrection depicts the spiritual reality of Christ’s descent into Hades and the conquering of death, the icon of the Myrrh-bearing Women depicts the empirical evidence, the first of several eyewitness accounts that helped strengthen the disciple’s confidence in the Resurrection and prepared them for the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. Learn more about this in the following video from Trisagion Films.
Saint George
This week, we also commemorated Saint George. Learn more about the life of this holy and great martyr in another video from Trisagion Films.
